Ryanair Doesn't do Marketing

Brace yourselves, I'm going to say something vaguely positive about Ryanair.

In this article from Brand Republic, Michael O'Leary says that "Ryanair invests "nothing" in advertising because, he claimed, it has the lowest fares on the market."

The article goes on to say, "Competitors British Airways and easyJet both rolled out multimillion-pound ad campaigns in the past 12 months, but O'Leary claimed their activity has boosted the whole aviation industry. The outspoken airline boss dismissed BA's 'To Fly. To Serve' campaign as "nonsense". He said: "It'll take an awful lot of BA and easyJet marketing to try to cover over the fact that they can’t compete with our prices." O'Leary said he has no plans to hire an external advertising agency, arguing that Ryanair already has "probably the most recognisable [and] infamous advertising of any company in the UK".

The most annoying thing is that he's probably right.

New Balance Excellence Makers

Really like the series of videos that New Balance has out now about Excellent Makers. "Excellent Makers are not defined by success, wealth, or status, but by a passion for what they do. These craftsmen, athletes, artists, and musicians believe in sharing their authentic, inspired visions with everyone and everything they touch."  My favourite are the ones about New Balance themselves. The videos tell the story of their shoes, and who's behind them. Really great use of a completely unique selling point; their people and passion.
